Why Building Muscle Matters

Why Building Muscle Matters

The Strengthen Pillar of Wellness

In wellness, muscle is often misunderstood.

For years, the conversation around movement and exercise has been heavily focused on aesthetics — becoming smaller, leaner, or simply burning calories. But muscle is far more than a visual outcome.

Muscle is one of the most powerful tools we have for supporting long-term health, resilience, energy, and longevity.

Within my Strengthen pillar, building and maintaining muscle is about creating a body that is supported structurally, metabolically, and hormonally — not just today, but for the future.

Muscle Supports Your Metabolism

Muscle tissue is metabolically active, meaning it requires energy to maintain.

The more healthy muscle mass we preserve, the more efficiently the body can regulate energy, blood sugar, and overall metabolic health. This becomes increasingly important as we age, particularly for women navigating hormonal shifts, stress, and changing body composition.

Building muscle is not about becoming “bulky.”
It is about creating a stronger, more supported system.

Muscle and Hormonal Health

Strength training and resistance-based movement can positively support hormone balance, insulin sensitivity, and stress resilience.

As women age, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass if it is not actively maintained. This decline can contribute to fatigue, reduced mobility, slower metabolism, and reduced structural support.

Maintaining muscle helps support:

  • energy levels
  • blood sugar stability
  • stress resilience
  • confidence and strength
  • healthy aging

Muscle Protects Bone Density

Muscle and bone health work together.

Resistance training places healthy stress on the body, encouraging bones to remain strong and supported. This is particularly important for women as bone density naturally declines with age.

Building muscle is not only about strength now — it is protection for later.

Posture, Alignment & Everyday Function

Strong muscles support the body’s alignment, posture, balance, and movement patterns.

When the body is weak or unsupported, compensation patterns often appear:

  • tension
  • poor posture
  • instability
  • aches and pains
  • reduced mobility

This is one of the reasons Pilates is such a powerful form of movement within the Strengthen pillar. It focuses not only on strength, but on controlled movement, deep stabilising muscles, posture, and structural integrity.

Strength should feel supportive — not punishing.

Muscle Is Longevity

One of the strongest predictors of healthy aging is muscle mass and strength.

Muscle supports:

  • independence
  • mobility
  • balance
  • recovery
  • resilience
  • quality of life

The goal is not simply to “exercise.”
The goal is to build a body that supports you for decades to come.

The Wellness by Cherie Approach

Within my 3S Method™:

SUSTAIN supports the body internally through nourishment, recovery, hydration, and foundational wellness.

STRENGTHEN builds structural resilience through movement, muscle, posture, and stability.

STIMULATE enhances the body externally through regenerative and advanced wellness treatments.

Because true wellness is not built from one angle alone.

You cannot stimulate a body that has never been supported.
And you cannot build long-term wellness without strength.

Muscle is not just aesthetic.
Muscle is protection.
Muscle is resilience.
Muscle is part of the foundation.
